Behind the Scenes
Lingnan Painting Exhibition Initial layout and Ideas
Our display section of Lingnan painting occupies the left side of the venue, where the entrance to our festival’s exhibition is.
10 display units were used for showing our 6 selected paintings and Lingnan garden’s decorations. Our 6 selected paintings are printed in the form of handscrolls and hanging scrolls. A label is attached near every painting to give the visitors a brief introduction to the painting.
Our painting exhibition starts with an information panel, introducing the theme and abstract of our section. Three paintings of flowers and birds in the Lingnan School of Painting were planned to be displayed, with the sound of sparrow chirping, we hope the visitors could imagine themselves being in the Lingnan garden.
Two western stained-glass windows stickers are used as Lingnan garden’s decoration and a check-in point for visitors to take photos.
Apart from the three paintings of flowers and birds, our painting exhibition also displays three Lingnan landscape paintings kindly lent by Mr Ho Wing Cheung, using the western stained-glass windows as the division of the two themes.
Our painting exhibition uses the hollowed Chinese circular window as the decoration and the last part of our section which also connects with the next exhibition section, literature. Chinese circular window as the typical design element in traditional Chinese structures and Lingnan gardens brings more Chinese elements to our exhibition. The hollowed Chinese circular window also allows people outside the venue to have a sneak peek at the interior of the venue, especially the pavilion, pond and bridge made by our architecture team, attracting more visitors to come in.
For the fences that make the corridor for visitors to walk in, we proposed to use the Chinese-style window grilles as the decoration of our fences along with some potted plants. These two decorations are symbolic characteristics of the Lingnan garden, hence this design would strengthen the ambience of the Lingnan garden in our painting section.
Through this exhibition layout, we believe we could create a space that resembles the interior of a Lingnan garden. Visitors not only can appreciate our selected paintings from the Lingnan School of Painting but also feel like walking in a Lingnan Garden, letting us bring them “A walk-through into Lingnan Garden.”
